HELP!

I am in a grading fog. I know I listened to all of your podcasts, and I have this vision of grading them. But, I did not have any grades recorded.  Does anyone remember any communication from me in terms of podcast feedback aside from my kudos list on the blog?  It's not a super big deal to re-grade them, but I can't shake this vision that I have done this already.

Happy, Shiny Portfolios!

It's always the details that can set you a part. Here are some quick tips. 1. When you upload a PDF of your resume, make sure the file name is either firstname_lastname.pdf or lastname_firstname.pdf. 2. Don't overlook the importance of developing your LinkedIn profile. Include your resume there as well as a link to your online portfolio. It is important to keep both places current and up-to-date. Add a reminder in your phone to update it once every 3-4 months. 3. Do not use a lot of senior photos. They are super easy to spot and indicate that you are looking back to the past. Your portfolio site should always be future-focused. It's there to help you reach the next level. One high quality head shot is really all your need on a professional portfolio site. 4. Always follow directions. The official directions for this assignment were available in D2L. The majority of you looked at this file, which I also believe I printed out for the class. If you want to get a jumpst

Discussion delays advertising breaks

Professor Charles Cranston shared this link with the members of the mass media faculty, and I wanted to share it with you as well.  He notes that during MSNBC's Morning Joe , during a planned 7-minute segment with Michael Moore,  MSNBC waived off commercial breaks and went for about 45 minutes with non-stop discussions and comments about the election,  the political parties,  the responsibilities of our leaders,  and what the American people need to do now and in the future. Cranston writes, "This is an amazing and historical television moment." http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/watch/michael-moore-joins-wide-ranging-election-talk-806604867876

Hannahs Podcast

I was going to discuss some serious topics within the criminal justice system to try and give you guys an educated insight since I am the only CJ major in the class... however, its been a long and stressful week for much of america so I decided to lighten the mood and discuss something we can hopefully all relate too on some level. I hope you don't take me too seriously, I am naturally a disgustingly sarcastic person & I apologize if I offend anyone with my thoughts or language, I clearly might need anger management for my road rage :) Side note- I feel like I sound like Tomi Lahren would if she recorded herself driving and that freaks me out because shes terrifyingly stupid... I promise I'm not nearly as ignorant as her and I really dont hate everything as much as I make it sound

Emily Clanton & Donald Tipton's Awesome Podcast

The podcast of Bryan and Darrin Here is our podcast which covers some of today's controversies in the NFL.  We have taken a rather light-hearted look at some of the issues concerning the NFL like some players protesting during the National Anthem and other players being fined for supporting different causes.  So, we hope you will enjoy it.   Disclaimer: This podcast covers controversial topics and our opinions about them.  However, no egos were harmed in the making of this podcast, so please try not take us too serious.  This is all just for fun.

Ashley and Sophie's Podcast

Slide show option #1

These are photos I took from my spot at the Homecoming Parade. I went into Google Drive and created a slide show. Then I inserted each of my photos as slides and then under "File," I chose the "Publish to Web" option and grabbed the embed code from there. Again, you have to make sure it's public to work.

A real live crowdsourcing example

Image
The internet has made many, many wonderful things possible. Yay technology. One of these things is a concept we call crowd sourcing or crowd sharing, etc. Robust user-friendly templates allow users all over the world to begin a fundraising campaign literally in minutes. Let me show you exactly what I mean. Sharon Sullivan is a professor in Washburn's Theatre department. She has a passion for helping empower all kinds of people. One of her heart causes happens to be families who have found themselves battling domestic violence. She has a goal to reach $1,000 for her cause through a website called CrowdRise. Others exist such as GoFundMe, etc. She set up her page and then reached out to her friends through email and Facebook. Check it out:  https://www.crowdrise.com/ywca-ne-ks-purple-purse/fundraiser/sharonsullivan4 As an assignment, please share another way crowdsourcing is used by COMMENTING on this post. (Things other than fundraising.) Please limit your answer to one th

Donald's Organizations

The 2 organazations I chose were BMI &  OUTsource. I chose BMI , Broadcast Music Inc , is a music and publishing organization. I chose this one becuause I am already a member. My music, about 50 different songs, are attached to BMI. I have also, been paid because of BMI. BMI allowed me to register my music and then they kept track of who and where my music was being played, downloaded, and purchased. IT wasn't a large check, but it felt damn good to make money in my life for doing something I loved. I believe that this organization will always be useful to me,even in advertising, because something I wrote could always possibly become a jingle. And nothing in life is free. BMI ensures that that remains the case. I also chose OUTsource , because it is geared towards making the proffesional live of the LGBT community easier. In this day in age, we have an easier time getting into business enviroments. WIth organizations like this one, it allows people to connect to others wit

Journalism - Professional Organizations

Kansas Press Association - An Organization formed over 150 years ago that represents newspapers and journalists to promote journalism and the free press. They help inform members of potential career opportunities and host many conventions and conferences in addition to their important work. Society of Professional Journalists - A society dedicated to fighting battles for journalists promoting free speech and protecting a journalist’s rights to the First Amendment. Professional Organizations

The Kansas Library Association The KLA is a group of Public Librarians in Kansas that are based in Emporia. Emporia State is also the only university in Kansas that offers a Masters of Library Science degree (which I plan to get later on). One of the coolest parts about the KLA website is the "Job Bank," where you can go to see a long list of different librarian jobs available. KLA also has a subscribable newsletter, yearly conferences, and different information sections about different types of librarians and libraries (University libraries, interlibrary loans, youth services, technical services, etc.) The American Copyeditors Association The ACEA is an organization dedicated to promoting excellent copyeditors around the nation. Sometimes it can be difficult to promote yourself as a copyeditor, freelancer, or editor because of the obscurities behind the title. Joining ACEA would allow new copyeditors a better shot at a career in the field through the educational confe
