Photo by Regina Cassell The Cassell family has invaded College Avenue! Welcome to Media Bootcamp, Fall 2016 edition! This blog will be a shared blog, and we will all share our thoughts as those who comment and those who post. I'm Regina Cassell, and I will be the leader of this expedition. About Me: My family sold our home of 15 years and moved a mile away to our new home on College Avenue. It was quite the adventure, and I have not fully recovered. I was still clinging to my 20s the last time we moved.  I’ve been at Washburn since July 2000. My husband, Gene, is the sports information director at Washburn, and we have two boys, Jacob, 13, and Jared, 11. I’m a busy wife and mom.  I have taught as a lecturer in the mass media department since the fall of 2003, and I am also the director of Student Media at Washburn. The Student Media staff keeps  washburnreview.org  updated with new content all year long along with producing three Bod Magazines, 26 weekly issues

Hello World--Emily's Bomb Life (lol)

Image
Hello, my name is Emily Clanton and I'm a native Topekan! I turned 18 in May, the same month I graduated from Shawnee Heights High School. Although I'm undecided on my minor, my goal is to major in Mass Media. This year I decided to live on-campus in the LLC. My plan is to become very involved and meet lots of new people. I also plan on rushing and joining a sorority this fall. I enjoy dancing and have been taking ballet and other classes for the past 14 years as well as competing though studio dance and my high school dance team. This will be my first year dancing for Washburn as a Dancing Blue and I'm very excited! Other than dance, some of my hobbies include: eating lots of delicious food, going out with my friends, and bumping rap music everywhere I go. If you see me outside class I will most likely be doing these three things. As of right now, I am a lifeguard at Genesis Health Club Wood Valley until Labor Day. After the holiday I will still be working at Genesis

Who is Anna Ciummo?

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Anna Ciummo and I am super excited to be in MM199 with you all. I am a sophomore here at Washburn, with a major in English and a minor in Mass Media. I may double minor with computer science as well. Right now, I am taking 15 hours of classwork, along with several small job positions. I am a barista at Caribou Coffee in the Hyvee grocery store, a sales associate at the TSCPL  library bookstore, as well as a Peer Educator for the Washburn FYE program. This may sound weird, but I really love school and working. Productivity and organization is almost therapeutic for me. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I didn't have school, but I know I'd be doing a lot of reading and writing. Someday, I hope to attend graduate school and get my MLS, or Master's of Library Science. My dream job would be to work in a public or university library, helping students with research and writing. A few of my favorite pastimes would be reading, writing, d

I am currently a mass media public relations major with a minor in English. I love sports, mostly football. I enjoy being a part of fantasy football every year. I also enjoy watching movies, tv shows, and listening to country music. I am also fascinated with magic/illusions and learning how to perform them. I am definitely looking forward to this class. A little about Isaiah Bell

Image
About me Hi all! My name is Isaiah Bell, I was born in Topeka, Kansas but I grew up in a lot of places. I spent most of my childhood growing up in Texas, Michigan, and Arizona just to name a few places before coming back home to go to school.  I am a sophomore here at Washburn University, I don't really know what I want to major in at the moment but I am leaning towards something to do with mass media. I took a class with Dr. Chorba last semester and I kind of give him the credit for be able to get me interested in this field. Like most college students I enjoy most forms of media, over the summer I was able to catch up on several shows thanks to this handy app called Netflix. I was able to watch season 1 and 2 of Daredevil. I am a huge fan of music, particulary rap and  hip hop and some of my favorite artist are Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Denzel Curry, and the up and coming Lil Dicky. I am a huge movie fan and I love analyzing and discussing them with people to h

Hey all! My name is Sophia-Joelle Oswald. People usually just call me Sophie or Sophia. You can call me whichever you wish. I'm originally from Lawrence, KS but I've been living in Topeka, KS for most of my life. I'm a sophomore and my major is Mass Media with an emphasis in Film & Video as well as a minor in History. It was hard for me to choose a major because I am interested in so many things. I could see myself doing any job in entertainment. I probably shouldn't stop there, right? I guess I will just say a few random things about me.  I like almost every sport but I can barely stand american football. Soccer is my absolute favorite sport and I'm always in the mood to watch a game. I'm a democrat and I've supported Bernie Sanders' campaign this year. I'm a vegan. I make sure to give at least one stranger a compliment every day. I truly do stick to that because I am a huge fan of putting positive energy out into the world.  I

What You Need To Know About Bayley Baker

Image
My personal blog is all about self-love and how a little self-confidence can change your life, as well as how today's society influences self-love, my own experiences, interviews with others on their own self-love journey, and more!  LINK TO PERSONAL BLOG:  http://selflovehandbook.blogspot.com/ Hello! My name is Bayley Baker and I am originally from Clearwater, Kansas. A relatively small town just outside of Wichita, Clearwater could accurately be described as a black hole that sucks people into it and traps them there forever. People who live in Clearwater rarely leave. My presence here in Topeka today is nothing short of a miracle. I am eighteen years old and a freshman at Washburn. My major is in Mass Media with an emphasis in Public Relations, while my minor is in Political Science. The role of White House Press Secretary would be my dream job. I love all things media (and most things politics). What I find most fascinating, however, is when the two combine - hence my ma

WELCOME TO MY FIRST BLOG! photo by Darrin Hartford Darrin Does It I'm very excited to start my new blog and be able to share my vast wealth of information on not only automotive stuff, but household repairs including DIY Pinterest type projects as well.  I definitely have a knack for fixing things, and I hate to say it, but sometimes I like to keep that a secret.  A good handyman should have no problem keeping themselves busy.   I have been taking things  apart as soon as I was able to hold a screwdriver.  For a while I could only successfully take things apart but, as the years went on, I was able to reassemble the things I had taken  apart, much to the joy of my mother.  For whatever reason, she did not enjoy seeing her hair dryer, toaster, TV, microwave, vacuum cleaner...etc. torn apart.  :)   As the years went on, I eventually landed a position in the automotive business as a technician.  I began my career at the former Gregg Tire, located in downtown Topeka

A Short Look Into My Life

Image
Hello Everyone! My name is Reilly Peuser and I come from a small town of about 6,000 people called Paola, Kansas. I am a freshman and I am majoring in Mass Media with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations. I was the editor-in-chief of my high school yearbook for both my junior and senior year. That is where I found my passion and knew I wanted to go into the Mass Media field. I have two brothers - one older, one younger - who have always ganged up on me, but I still love them dearly. I also have a miniature dachshund named Beanie whom I love with all my heart. So, that is a little bit about me but if you want to know more, but ask! Also, have you been feeling down because you can't find anything fun to do on a college budget? Are you really craving a certain kind of food, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get it? Or do you just find yourself bored throughout the day and are looking for something to do? Look no more! Come take a look at my college

About Cassie Nichols

Hey everyone! My name is Cassie Nichols. I am a Freshman this year and I am from Overland Park, KS. I was born in Tulsa, OK but moved to Kansas 10 years ago. I play on the Women's Soccer team here at Washburn. Soccer has always been a huge part of my life and I have been playing since I was 4 years old. I have always pictured myself playing in college so I'm super excited to be here. Aside from soccer I love writing, shopping, and hanging out with my friends & family. I interned for 435 Magazine of KC last spring which I absolutely loved because I got to work with fashion and lifestyle, as well as improve my writing skills. As for family I have one little sister named Claire who just turned 13. We also own a black and red dachshund who I am obsessed with named Baxter. http://lifeofasoccergrl.blogspot.com Here is my blog link... It's called "A Day in the Life of a Soccer Girl."

Hey guys! Okay honestly I have no idea what I am doing, I have no idea how to blog or what to say. I am so not tech savy, I can use my iphone and facebook and that is about it. I am not a mass media major so please don't laugh at me when I can't figure out what is going on 90% of the time. I am originally from San Ramon, California. I moved to Omaha in July of 2014, then I moved down to topeka in January so I am fairly new to Kansas. I am studying Criminal Justice and hope to become a Juvenile Probation Officer one day. I am obsessed with my chihuahua - mini pinscher mix named Poncho. He is the cutest dog ever and my absolute best friend. I am a full time student and I work full time at the Toy Store here in Topeka. I have Crohn's Disease, so I will probably be blogging about how I survive college while battling a chronic illness. I don't really know what else to say but I look forward to learning how to use all these fancy websites this semester! Also I'm

Donald's Intro

Image
Hello. My name is Donald. I look forward to learning the world of mass media. I didnt realize this should be more in depth. Well, I am a 32 y/o car salesman. I have been doing this job about 7 months. It is a very interesting job with a large amount of frustrating moments. I also dabble in music in my off time. I've written 1500 + songs in my life. Some of those I have actually gotten paid for. I have a husband (Fiance, actually though I hate that word) of about 3 years. HE's a very tall introvert, which causes its own types of issues, because I'm completely out going. From time to time, you will see me in various Marvel gear, because I'm a huge Marvel Comics fan. (I'm actually counting down to Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & 2). I'm very opinionated and outspoken. So, be careful asking me for mine. Hope that gives a little more insight into my crazy scattered, world. My blog will be all about the world of cars. However, it's not about the inside

Hello! My name is Bryan Grabauskas and I am a Mass Media Major with an emphasis on journalism. I am a junior but this is my first year as a mass media major. I started my freshman year as a pre-pharmacy major. Then, when I realized I wasn’t the biggest fan of science, I spent a year trying to figure out what to do. And now, here I am! I don’t have much experience in this field but I am eager to learn.      I was born in Topeka, KS and have spent my whole life here, other than a year spent at KU. I have traveled a little, mainly all in the U.S. I enjoy time spent faraway but always am glad to be home.      My favorite things to do are playing videogames, watching movies, and watching/playing football. Of course, that’s when I’m not doing homework. Anyway, here’s of picture of me sleeping on my dog. Read my blog at http://haveyouplayedit.blogspot.com/

UPDATE: I will be blogging about my experiences with Asperger's Syndrome so check it out! Hello there everybody!   My name’s Nathaniel Jackson, and yes as Jackson Hermann states, “Yeah, there are lot of Jackson’s here…” in the Bootcamp but I am referred to as Nathaniel.   My dad likes to piss me off and call me Nate, which refers to my old business I used to own prior to being a student at Washburn.   Ironically speaking of Jackson’s my mother’s name is Janet, and my step-dad’s name is Michael.   Yes, just like the famous singer duos. As I mentioned I once owned a small business, NateDog Productions but now I am working for my BFA as a Graphics Design major with a minor in Mass Media.   I have worked both at the KTKA studios (on SW Chelsea Drive when it just was built) in high school, and since then every few months at KTWU-TV.   In fact, my first course as a Washburn University student was Introduction to Broadcast Production (MM110) in 1999.   This was at the same time

What Up, I'm Will

Hey guys. My name is Will Hartner. I'm a mass media student with an emphasis in film and video. I am minoring in Jazz studies. I play bass in the Jazz band. I played percussion in the Wind Ensemble too. Music for me is like an uber-hobby. I grew up doing it, and I still love it and what not. Other than music my hobbies include video games and a little bit of table top gaming. Not much else really. As far as sports go, I like watching hockey and not really anything else. The Roadrunners are a ton of fun. If you've never been, you should go! Well anyway, it's late. I'm excited to see everyone tomorrow. Also, here's to prove I know how to Link

Update 9/7/16 My new personal blog, Hopeful Progress, is about the intersection between technology and our quality of life. It's about how tech is making the world a better place. I hope you'll come read a few posts and share a little of that optimism with me. :) Here's a link:  http://hopefulprogress.blogspot.com/ Can't wait to read some of your blogs too! -- Hello, class! My name's Jackson, and I know we have a couple of Jackson's in our class. I'm Jackson Hermann, or Jackson H. Introductions are difficult. The cliche is always that we were told growing up it's not polite to talk about ourselves, but honestly that's not true, at least for me. It just feels weird talking about myself to a big group of strangers, and that never changes. © Rockstar Games The valiant hero of Red Dead Redemption I guess I'll just go with my interests and hobbies. My biggest interests are technology, online video, and gaming, both video and bo

Hi everyone! My name is Madeline Hill, and you guessed it... I am going to share a little bit about myself in this post. As I said up above, my name is Madeline, but the nickname I go by is Mel. I'm a born and raised Kansan; however, I spent my first year of college at Southern Illinois University on a tennis scholarship. I decided to transfer back home after my freshman year because my older sister was diagnosed with cancer and I wanted to be closer to her and my family. Currently, I am living in an apartment and own two pets: a baby kitten and a ferret. (And as I'm currently writing, my baby kitten and ferret are snuggling with each other. So cute). My baby kitten's name is Finn (short for Finnleigh), and my ferret's name is Clyde. Perhaps the most important information about me is that I am a HUGE food lover and a sports watcher. Put me in front of a T.V. and 9 out of 10 times the first channel I'll flip to will have something to do with sports. I will b
