NCAA Tournament Cancellation Due to COVID-19

By: Andrew Mercer Photo by: Andrew Mercer A moment in sports that will go down in history as unforgettable is the cancellation of the 2020 March Madness NCAA Basketball Tournament. At first, the plan was to play both the conference tournaments and NCAA tournaments without fans in attendance. However, this quickly started to change for the worse and conference tournaments were being cancelled in the middle of games being played. A few days later the NCAA tournament was cancelled , and the season was ended altogether. Seniors on their respective teams would not get a chance to play in the NCAA tournament and lost their eligibility prematurely.  The decision to cancel the tournaments came shortly after the NBA postponed their season when one player tested positive for the virus. How The NBA is Dealing With COVID-19

The NBA has been looking for ways to incorporate and advertise their league while being unable to play games or hold team practices. The first main event that has come from this pandemic is an NBA 2K tournament played by various players from NBA teams. This tournament was hosted by Ronnie2K and players played online against each other while staying quarantined at home. Another way the NBA is trying to entertain their audience is through an ESPN televised H.O.R.S.E tournament which also featured current and former NBA players.  Currently, the NBA is looking for a way to continue their season which was earlier indefinitely postponed on March 11, 2020. Sports and COVID-19

In this series, I will focus on the impact the Corona Virus has had on sports and how the cancellations started and what lead up to those moments.  I will talk about how these organizations will adjust and plan for the future of their leagues. Sports have a big impact and I can’t remember a time where there were no sports in history. We are in uncharted times and sports are in a difficult place along with everyone else. Leagues have been finding ways to adapt and have online events. Some notable leagues that have done this are NBA and NASCAR.  Leagues have been planning financially as well and are figuring out how to compensate their players, employees and everyone within their organizations. I hope that sports can go back to the way they were soon, and people can appreciate watching live sporting events and not take them...
