Los Angeles' Impact on Music

Los Angeles

By: Haleigh McDonald

The most famous music city in America is Los Angeles; it is where all genres of music are played and created. All of the biggest record labels are based in L.A., like Capital Records, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Atlantic Records. Los Angeles is where a majority of famous musicians and artists reside. Hollywood is where you go to "make it big" in the entertainment industry, for acting, modeling and in music.

Even though all types of music is made in L.A., the city is most known for the Rock N' Roll of the 60's, Disco in the 70's, Hip-Hop from the late 80's to now and Pop music. Rock artists like Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers are all rock legends that have made music in Los Angeles and played at famous music venues in L.A., like  The Fonda, The Troubadour and The Roxy.

Hip Hop groups like N.W.A, and Rap artists like Snoop Dogg and Tupac are all pioneers of Rap and Hip Hop who are from Los Angeles. Without these artists, Rap and Hip Hop would not be what it is today and current artists like Kendrick Lamar and Tyler the Creator who are also from L.A. would not be making music without the early influences of Hip Hop that started in Los Angeles.

You can find the most famous popstars in the world like Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Selena Gomez living and making music in Los Angeles.
