4-H: The Big Picture

The actual definition of 4-H is "of or relating to a program set up by the U.S. Department of Agriculture originally in rural areas to help young people become productive citizens by instructing them in useful skills;" I like to define it as an organization that allows you to do anything artistic or agricultural related, community services,  with a lot of fun trips thrown in. 4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, Health, which are the four main attributes that this organization focuses on; clear thinking, greater loyalty, larger service, and better living.

Anyone can join 4-H once they turn seven years old. There are so many projects that people can choose from, from arts and crafts, to geology where you fossil hunt and find unique rocks, to horticulture and you work with plants, the choices are endless. Most of the projects take a whole year of planning and practicing before they are perfect for the fair.

Most people expect 4-Hers to be from the country, but you would be surprised on how many counties, including yours have 4-H without you even knowing.
