Professionalism: Intro

Professionalism in the workplace has always been an expectation. Regardless of your place of work. Whether you are working at a fast food chain restaurant, a young child who goes to school everyday against your own will, or a highly educated individual who makes a commute everyday to work in a skyscraper located in downtown New York with the highest level of stock brokers known to the nation. There is an expectation that people must be held to, for the business to run, the burgers to be sold, and the students to learn. This is something most if not all of us can agree on. Where the trouble comes to place is how that expectation is upheld, and enforced. Those who tend to be in power- typically older aged white men- are the ones who have created the expectation for professionalism. An expectation that tends to focus more on appearance than the actual action of the employees present within the corporation. Which all in all begins to show the true values of those in charge.
